What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary therapy, which helps to re-balance and relax your body.  Points are stimulated on your hands, ears or feet to correspond with other areas of your body...inside and out.  When your body is ill, out of balance or under stress, certain energy pathways become blocked.  These show up on your feet, hands or ears.  A Reflexologist will be able to identify and work on these areas, which then allows your body to heal itself.

A Reflexologist does NOT diagnose conditions, claim to cure or prescribe medication.  Reflexology is NOT a replacement for medical care, it should complement medical care.  Always consult a doctor first.

Why choose Reflexology?

Reflexology is for you if you like your feet, hands or ears touched and massaged.  It works on your entire body through one of these areas so it is also easily accessible.  Reflexology is versatile, concentrating on short but effective treatments aimed at problem areas or concentrating on a relaxing, longer, general treatment.  Whichever treatment you have, you will finish feeling relaxed and re-balanced.

What are the benefits and side effects?

As Reflexology treats the whole person and not just the symptoms of disease, nearly everyone can benefit from it.  A treatment brings relief from a wide range of conditions and it is suitable for all ages.  Reflexology is a fantastic way of relaxing, re-balancing and harmonizing your body.  It increases blood flow, thereby improving circulation in the body.

Approximately 75% of todays diseases can be related to stress and tension.  The symptoms vary with each individual.  Reflexology can play an important role in reducing the amount of "sick days" taken, by relaxing and opening the energy pathways and revitalizing the body.

Some side effects can occur for up to 24 hours after a treatment.  These range from frequent urination, a runny nose, headaches, nausea and tiredness.  This is completely normal and not as bad as it sounds.  These side effects are known as a healing crisis and are your body's way of getting rid of toxins.  A client is advised to drink plenty of still water to help with the removal of toxins.

What happens during a treatment?

At the start of your session, I will go through your medical history with you, to make sure there are no contra-indications (reasons for not doing the treatment).  I will then devise a treatment plan to suit your needs.  We will then go ahead with the treatment.  The duration of your treatment varies, depending on which area I am working on, generally: a Foot treatment would take just over an hour ; a Hand treatment takes about an hour; Ears take about twenty minutes.  I also do a combination Hand and Ear top up treatment, which takes about twenty minutes.  Each would start and finish with a relaxing massage.
